Welcome to Prestige Poodles.
I grew up in the rural California town of
Lindsay, in the 1950's and 1960's My first dog
friend was my boxer, Mugsy. When I was eleven my
father bought the first of several horses that
helped to educate me in the nuances of horse
behavior, their feelings and communication.
During that time I also enjoyed observing the
simple yet complex relationships of the various
farm animals that my parents enjoyed on their
small acreage. I bought my first poodle, a
miniature, when I was twelve. She gave me an
appreciation for the breed. I bought my first
standard poodle several years later.
I raised a few litters of standard poodles in
the late 1970's, early 1980's. During that time
I hadn't decided on a prefix. The dogs that I
used in my very limited breeding program where
purchased with temperament, conformation and
complimentary pedigrees in mind. I educated
myself, learned where I wanted to go and what I
wanted to achieve. I did the best that I could
to raise healthy, good conformation dogs with
temperaments deserving of the standard poodle.
My choice of the Prestige prefix set my thoughts
into a goal that had purpose. By definition:
"weight or influence derived from past success;
expectation of future achievements founded on
those already accomplished; force or charm
derived from acknowledged character or
reputation." I knew that I wanted to move to an
area where dog shows and like minded people were
in closer proximity to my goals.
After a move to Thousand Oaks, in Southern
California, I became friends with Kirsten
Nielsen, a Danish citizen who was living in
California for a short time. We co-owned and
showed poodles together. When Kirsten moved back
home to Denmark she tried to register the
Prestige prefix with FCI, but it was not
approved. She and her twin sister, Marianne,
registered the prefix Abica's, and carry that
name on their successful afghan kennel. Kirsten
is currently showing the Prestige standard
poodle bitch, Nord Ch. Prestige I Get It!, a Bam
Bam granddaughter.
My poodles, both past and present, as well as a
look into the future with Prestige are shown in
these pages. Please enjoy looking around.
